Stuck inside!

The past week has been downright cruel in Minnesota - we all suffer through the long winters hoping for relief in summer, and the past week has been too hot to even go outside. When it feels like 120 degrees outside, that's just too much for me at least. So we've been having to get creative with entertaining a toddler in the house - a little preview of this winter I guess!

One thing I want to remember about this week is that on Tuesday night, when I went over to the neighbor's house to get Annie to take her to bed, she FINALLY looked at me and said "MOMMY!" It was so nice to finally hear her start to use Mommy normally and regularly! A lot of the times she still calls me daddy :) She's been repeating Mommy a lot and saying it here or there, but that was the first real deliberate use of the word. I definitely got a little teary eyed!

We've been making smoothies a lot lately, and Annie has started to recognize the sound of the blender and get VERY excited (and then pissed that her smoothie isn't delivered promptly enough for her) - I finally caught it on video - hilarious!

One of Annie's favorite activities lately is throwing her tennis ball around the house. Her form needs a LITTLE work :)

The one time we left the indoors this weekend was to hit up Liz's new apartment's pool - I of course had a brain lapse and forgot her swim diaper at home, but everyone survived :)

Annie and Mom

So, Annie is a bit of a strange one when falling asleep - she sucks her thumb and also plays with her belly button. Lately she's been doing this also when she's tired, even when she's not in the crib... this is SLIGHTLY troubling for me, since I was hoping she'd keep thumb sucking to only sleeping... I'm not going to try to stop her or anything, but I sucked my thumb until I was in 2nd grade. So yeah, it's a bit of a fear of mine that Annie will be similarly addicted. Time will tell, I guess!

A few other photos from our extremely low key weekend:

Going shopping at the Children's Museum
First visit to the Children's Museum! We decided to get a membership since it's worth it if you go 3 times... that place is seriously amazing! I loved it as a kid and I'm pretty sure Annie would be entertained there for days.

Apparently easier than pushing
This thing has gotten a beating and is currently in time out because Annie abuses it so much.

Entertained by the rocking horse at the neighbor's house.

Annie playing with the water table
A short time outside with the water table - about all we could tolerate!

Mia and Annie at Izzy's
Mia and Annie greatly enjoyed the visit to Izzy's Ice Cream

Hilarious videos. She is really growing up! I love that San Diego shirt of hers.

Annie is so adorable!
I hear ya on entertaining them indoors. We're all going stir crazy over here.
Thanks for the tidbit on the Children's Museum passes. We might need to get those in addition to our zoo membership. It could be a lifesaver in the winter.

Yeah, this past week has been BRUTAL. I hate complaining about hot weather in the summer, because I do so much complaining in the winter as it is, but seriously? We were feeling cooped up too, which just meant we ran a lot of errands this weekend just to get out of the house. Went to the mall a couple times, just to wander around and play in the play area. LAME.

We need to go to the Children's Museum, thanks for reminding me how awesome it is. Have never been there with Gus and he's probably flip for it.

Today though, is BEAUTIFUL. Definitely going to the park tomorrow, finally.

Also, I sucked my thumb until second grade too!! My mom has always told me that I finally kicked the habit when they appealed to my vanity. The dentist told me I would for sure get buck teeth (they were already getting pretty bad) and would need braces for sure if I kept it up. Story goes that I went cold turkey that same day. Ridiculous. ;)

Oh yeah, and you totally won me over with your case for a January baby. :) And really, if you think about it, if I'm feeling cooped up with a newborn as it is, it might as well be in the middle of winter. For sure. And yeah, Annie was old enough last year for you guys to get out and have a fun summer outdoors, hard to do that with a one month-old.

She was hilarious... especially when she finally came up for air from that long drink!

Okay so please tell me how you make your smoothies. I don't have a stand blender - but I have one of those immersion ones that Ben is using. I had no idea I could use it to make them though! Do you have a good basic recipe?

I went back and added a link to our recipe, but here it is again!

AliRose - The only way I finally stopped was from being bribed with candy by my teacher. Sigh....

Oh my gosh, so much to comment on. Isaac freaks every time I run the blender. He's so excited he can barely contain himself. So funny.

Love A in the bloated Target diaper. And playing with her belly button when sleepy? Ridiculously cute.

The children's museum looks awesome! We have something similar here - Discovery PlayHouse - and we plan to take Isaac soon. Seeing these pictures, I'm really excited about it!

Isaac LOVES to push things around and his car is currently in time out as well because he's so darn rough. He tries to run over poor Butch constantly.

Looks like you are having a fun summer in spite of the oppressive heat. :)
