This was the day that Nate recorded his other time lapse video of the girls playing, which is definitely a good summary of our day! Nap time consisted of just laying by the pool, Nate, Molly and Ben in the shade and me in the sun for most of the time.
Oops, cut Ben off :)
After naptime, at 4:21pm, I received an email from Playasia, the restaurant Nate and Molly had just gone to last night and loved, and where we planned to go for our date night that night with a 7:30pm reservation. This is what it said:
I hope that this message finds you well and that you are able to receive it soon. I am so sorry to let you know that I just received the notification today that Playasia will be close starting from today.
Ummmm... okay. Very odd, but I guess I do appreciate the attempt at letting me know before we got all the way there and it was closed! I set to work to find another acceptable restaurant. After reading a ton of reviews, I decided on a place called Xulam, which wasn't too far of a walk from our place. After that was all figured out, we headed to the beach to attempt some family photoshoots. As you will see, this didn't go very well, since Annie wasn't in the best spirits - she was definitely feverish, snotty and drooly. Oh well!
The thought bubble over Annie's head reads: "I hate you guys!!!"
Clearly excited to not be doing a photoshoot anymore :)
I took a few pics of Molly, Nate and Mia!
When we got back, we gave Annie a bath again, got her dinner and got ready to go out! After I nursed and put her to bed, we were on our way walking to town.
The lights of Cozumel in the distance looked great that clear night!
Ben had to run in to this random restaurant to sit in their large chairs
We had a nice walk that ended abruptly when we walked up to the restaurant and it was obviously for sale and closed. What luck we were having with this date night! So we just walked along 10th Ave for a bit because we remembered seeing some other restaurants when we were searching that looked good. We found one but decided we didn't want to eat there, so we walked back to 5th Ave, came upon Playasia and saw that it was, indeed, closed. Just kept walking, down a cute looking side street until finally we settled on a restaurant. I didn't even note the name and it's not in any of my photos, but it wasn't anything amazing.
Dinner was okay, I had seafood ravioli and Ben and lobster carpaccio. There was a table of 20-something Mexican guys having some kind of reunion a few tables over, and they kept giving one of the bands walking by money to play songs which was entertaining. They were far enough away that we could still talk normally, but close enough to be entertaining. The group of guys seemed to be having a grand old time singing with them. I recognized some songs from middle school Spanish class :)
After we finished dinner, we walked to The Beer Bucket, where we had gone out the last time we were in Playa del Carmen, with some new friends we had made on a tour. It still seemed to be the same crowd - 50 something Americans who come to Playa each year and maybe own a condo there. We went upstairs, which was empty, and enjoyed the view and the cheap beers. We eventually got a cab home and found Nate sitting on the couch, and Molly already in bed. Despite the setbacks, it was a great night out.
The beauty of an empty bar - you can do timer shots without feeling like a moron

Love it. I am really enjoying my weekly trips to Mexico through your blog. Annie already looks at home in a spa robe- can't wait to take her on a spa date for her birthday - a few years from now. The photo of the lights of Cozumel is fantastic!
oh I hate when plans fall through... what a great night anyway. Annie in the bath robe is so cute.
Can I tell you how jealous I am of these posts? I want warm weather and beaches!
Ben, I think we need to add those big "royalty" chairs to the list for your patio project ;) Or I bet they would look great on the small porch on top of our back hall. Mol and I could just sit up there and judge everyone.
