Playa del Carmen - Day 3 - February 7th

On our 3rd day, we planned to go out to breakfast - Molly had looked up some places the night before, so as soon as we were all up and ready, we walked to the condos down the road from our house because there were always taxis there, and took a taxi to La Cueva del Chango, since it was on the far north side of town and way too long of a walk.

Another cute little shirt, this one from Aunt Becca!

We got to the restaurant fairly early, and it was pretty full of families. They had tons of high chairs, which was awesome, and they were actually well made and safe, unlike the other ones we used. It is a beautiful place, set among trees and open to the outside. The food was really great too! I had french toast which was served with butter and plum marmelade, Ben had chilaquiles, and we got an order of the oatmeal with fresh fruit and milk for the girls to share. Annie decided she had no interest in the oatmeal though, and only wanted my french toast. Of course! I LOVED this restaurant, and would highly recommend checking it out if you are in Playa del Carmen.

Nice collection of "toys" Annie has, huh? A plastic container, one shoe, and her water.

They have a really cool fish pond in the middle that older toddlers and kids would love!

Annie's way of telling us that, no, she does not want fruit and oatmeal!

Sun streaming in!

We hung out at the restaurant and enjoyed a leisurely meal. After that, we walked to the beach to check it out for a bit and then parted ways so Molly and I could go supplement the groceries we had with another trip and the boys could go back to the house with the girls.

Nate told me the previous day how to get that sunburst effect (put the aperture at f/22) so I became a liiiitle obsessed with trying it out :)

Clearly very impressed

Based on the poor experience at Wal-Mart on day 1, we elected to go to MEGA instead, which was a very good decision. It was, indeed, MEGA, and had a lot of English signage. We were there for awhile and tried to make good decisions in terms of what would go with what, but again, should have planned more. Oh well!

When we got back, the girls were both in the pool - well, Annie was in her floaty, and Nate was trying to entice Mia to enjoy the pool, but still no luck there. Her loss! I don't remember anything noteable from this day really. The girls took naps, we hung out..... This is why I need to journal or something on trips, because clearly even a week later I can't remember anything! I did post on twitter some, so at least I have that. So from that, I remember that my trusty 50mm f/1.8 lens broke this day :( It was a sad state of affairs, and I still haven't examined it closely, but it appears that the focus ring detaches from the rest of the lens completely. Nate has a 50mm f/1.4 that he let me borrow, so I wasn't 50mm-less the rest of the trip, thankfully.

I told you I was obsessed with the sunburst

Such a low key day I even had time for a beer photoshoot at the beach

Mia blowing up the turtle
Mia is very into pretend right now - she was pretending to blow up the floaty :)

Annie playing by the pool
And Annie is still very into putting things inside of other things :)

I do know that we again stayed in tonight - cooking up something again that didn't require the stove because it hadn't gotten fixed yet. It was some combination of ground beef, refried black beans, cheese, peppers..... that actually ended up being quite good. Ben, Nate and Molly had all been enjoying the adult beverages all day, so they were in bed at like 9pm. I've found that if I have even a few, my sleep just sucks so I didn't have anything and was awake reading after they were all down for the count - again, SUCH an exciting bunch we are!
