Thank you everyone for your comments on my last 2 posts - just wanted to give a brief update before I launch into Annie's week in my weekly post. Ben's thumb is fine - if you want to see what it looked like yesterday, click here. He re-bandages it every day, and doesn't have to wear the bandage to shower which is nice.
Grace and Sam are doing well in the NICU. They are stable and progressing as they should which is amazing. However, Becca and Joe just learned that both babies have PKU, which you can learn about here. It is a rare genetic disorder that has nothing to do with being multiples or preemies, just plain old bad luck. 1/25,000 kind of bad luck. I'm dramatically oversimplifying this disorder, but basically what it boils down to is that people with PKU are allergic to most naturally occurring forms of protein - so they can't eat dairy, beans, meat, nuts and much much more. If they do eat those things, it is toxic to the brain and leads to severe mental retardation. The bad news can stop ANYTIME now. Because seriously, it's bordering on ridiculous how much they have had to go through! I'm just so sad to think that they won't ever get to eat an ice cream cone or have a cupcake or eat a cheeseburger :( I guess it's kind of good they are in it together, and that it is manageable and all that but it still just sucks.
Weekly post coming soon.

Geez, I don't read the Internet for a week and look what happens! I would've passed out if the thumb thing happened to Jon (though I'm much less queasy after having a baby). And I'm so sorry about the twins. I cannot imagine.
